Epic dinosaur trackway in Ouray is now officially public land

The U.S. Forest Service acquired the West Gold Hill Dinosaur Tracksite, located at 9,300 feet

The West Gold Hill Dinosaur Tracksite in Ouray was first discovered in the 1950s. Over the last decade, researchers have excavated the area to reveal 134 sequential steps left by a sauropod 150 million years ago. The site will remain open to the public since the U.S. Forest Service acquired the land from private owners in April 2024. (Provided by Bruce Schmacher/U.S. Forest Service)
