Copper Mountain officials announced the Summit County resort will remain open into May on Monday, joining the list of Colorado resorts with plans to remain open as long as conditions allow. The others are Breckenridge, Winter Park and Arapahoe Basin.

Copper’s high elevation and abundant snowpack enabled the extension. Its current mid-mountain snow depth is nearly five feet. Resort officials say the American Eagle, Excelerator, Super Bee and Storm King lifts will be running. The Storm King tops out at more than 12,250 feet.

Nine resorts are still open, five of which are scheduled to close on Sunday: Eldora, Aspen, Steamboat, Vail and Monarch.

More snow is on the way, according to the , which is predicting double-digit snow totals over the next five days at Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, Vail and Winter Park. Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Eldora and Steamboat are expecting 8-9 inches.

While planning to remain open into May, Copper will hold its annual season-ending festivities on the previously scheduled weekend, April 27-28.
