The Aurora Police Department arrested a suspect on Sunday afternoon in the murder of a woman.

Jorge Fernandez-Garcia, 31, is charged with first degree murder-domestic violence after a woman in a known relationship with him died after a stabbing.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday at 2200 Geneva Street in Aurora after being alerted of a woman calling for help, according to a police department notice published around noon on Monday. Police found the female victim on the ground as an adult man stood over her before fleeing.

She was transported to the hospital with stab wounds, then died soon after.

The Adams County Coroner will identify the deceased, but declined to provide any updates over the phone on Monday at 1 p.m. The police investigation is ongoing.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
