Northbound U.S. 85 reopened near East 104th Avenue on Thursday after what Commerce City police called a “massive crash” involving a semitrailer and a dump truck.

The police agency, which is handling traffic control as the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado State Patrol investigate, characterized the crash as a multi-vehicle hit-and-run in a at just after noon Thursday.

The highway initially was closed in both directions. Southbound lanes reopened after about 45 minutes and northbound lanes reopened after two hours.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
