Pool closed until further notice for repairs

Seven people were injured when chemicals leaked from an outdoor swimming pool pump at Aurora’s on Friday afternoon, according to Aurora Fire Rescue.

Crews responded to the city pool at Del Mar Park, 12000 East 6th Ave., at around 2 p.m. Friday for a hazardous materials call, according to the fire department.

Maintenance staff found a pump was leaking pool chemicals into the air and shut it down before first responders arrived, .

The departmentap hazardous materials team evacuated the pool, checked air quality and treated seven people for respiratory injuries related to the chemical spill that were not life-threatening.

Five people were taken to hospitals, according to the department.

The pool is closed until further notice for repairs, city spokesperson Matt Brown said in an email.

“The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we will be thoroughly investigating the cause of the incident,” Brown wrote.
