Man arrested in two Aurora shootings that wounded three

At least one victim had life-threatening injuries from the Thursday night shooting that began with a woman shot in her car

Police arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of shooting three people across Aurora late Thursday night, leaving at least one with life-threatening injuries.

Austin Benson, from Aurora, was booked Friday morning into the Aurora Detention Center on suspicion of three counts of attempted first-degree murder, .

Around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, a 50-year-old woman was shot in her car in the 4400 block of South Eagle Circle, .

Police believe Benson then drove about half a mile southeast to the 4600 block of South Crystal Way and shot a 64-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, both walking in the area.

Aurora officers located Benson’s damaged car in the 14200 block of East Tufts Place later that night, the police department said in the statement. Officers saw a person matching the description of the shooter inside an apartment.

Police said four people were evacuated from inside the apartment unit as officers arrested Benson. The 34-year-old was taken to the hospital as a precaution and released Friday morning into the custody of the Aurora Detention Center.

The investigation shut down Aurora’s Smoky Hill Road in both directions between Quincy and Evanston for three hours overnight Thursday.
