One person has died and another has been arrested following a shooting Monday night in north Denver, according to a Denver Police Department post on X.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4600 block of East 48th Avenue, outside of Denver Rescue Mission, around 8 p.m. on Monday and found a man with gunshot wounds,
Denver police reported the shooting around Fourteen minutes later, the department announced that the victim had been pronounced deceased on scene.
Police collected witness statements and quickly arrested a 40-year-old man who was still at the scene of the shooting. The man is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder. Officials believe a verbal altercation between the suspect and victim escalated into a shooting, according to the release.
Denver Rescue Mission is working with Denver police as the department investigates the incident, according to a Monday night press release from the nonprofit.
“We will remain steadfast in keeping the safety of the Mission’s guests, employees and volunteers a high priority, as we serve the community’s most vulnerable,” the release states.
