Nearly 50 people were displaced after an Aurora apartment complex caught fire Friday afternoon.

Aurora Fire Rescue crews responded to a two-alarm fire at a three-story apartment building near the intersection of South Elkhart Way and South Evanston Way about 2:45 p.m., the agency said in a news release.

The fire damaged 23 apartment units, displacing nearly 50 people, according to fire officials. Firefighters faced challenges including a water main break when containing the fire.

No injuries were reported, although one firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The American Red Cross also responded to the fire to help displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation, according to fire officials.
