A social studies teacher at Douglas County High School was charged Thursday with sexual assault of a child.
James “Jim” Christopher Thomure, 55, was charged with one count of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust during a Thursday morning hearing — a class four felony — according to court records.
Thomure faces two years to life in prison and 10 years to life on sex offender intensive supervision probation, .
The 55-year-old lives in Centennial and began working at the Douglas County School District in 1999. According to district officials, Thomure is on administrative leave “pending investigation.”
According to an arrest affidavit from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Thomure assaulted a student while the two were alone in a classroom together.
Sheriff’s officials said Thomure tried to kiss the student and put his hands inside the student’s pants twice. The studentap age and gender were redacted from the report.
When the student put a hand on his chest to keep him away, Thomure said the student was “driving [him] crazy,” according to the affidavit. Thomure told the student that he wanted to do things to them, that they could go to the park over the summer and that “casual sex can be fun.”
School surveillance video confirmed Thomure was alone in the classroom with the student for more than an hour.
Thomure is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 22.
