A man accused of is being held at the Weld County Jail on a $5 million bond.

Police arrested 21-year-old Haven Ramirez last Thursday after he shot another man several times following a fight outside a trailer in northeast Greeley, according to an affidavit for his arrest.

Just after 2 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a shooting at a trailer park in the 2700 block of West C Street. Dispatch notes indicated the caller’s neighbor had come to her home crying and saying someone had been shot.

On arrival, officers saw what looked like blood, as well as several spent shell casings, on the floor of the trailer. They also found a man — later identified as 24-year-old Gabriel Mauricio — with a lot of blood on and around him and several apparent gunshot wounds to his chest, according to the affidavit.

Officers began performing life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. Mauricio was later taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

While caring for Mauricio, officers noticed several cans and bottles of alcohol on the dining room table.

Police spoke with a pair of witnesses who told them a man named Haven was the shooter and that he had fled in a red Subaru just after the shooting, according to the affidavit. Police searched the name in a database and identified the shooter as Ramirez.

One witness told police Ramirez and Mauricio had been arguing throughout the night about gang membership and other topics, according to the affidavit. During one of the arguments, the witness said, Ramirez pulled a gun out of his waistband and a physical fight ensued just outside the trailer.

After the fight, Mauricio returned inside the trailer and stood in the living room. A witness tried to keep Ramirez from following Mauricio inside, and Ramirez pulled the gun and shot Mauricio multiple times from the doorway, according to the affidavit.

The witness told police that Mauricio had no weapons and didn’t make any threats toward Ramirez, according to the affidavit.

Another witness told officers the four had been hanging out at the trailer since about 10 p.m. the night prior. She told police she had never met Ramirez before that night.

The group was drinking throughout the night, she said, until at some point Ramirez and Mauricio started arguing about “gangs.” The initial argument settled down, but another argument turned physical and the two began fighting outside the trailer, according to the affidavit.

The second witness said she and the other witness had to pull Mauricio off Ramirez and take Mauricio inside the trailer, according to the affidavit.

Ramirez then walked up to the door and pointed the gun at her and the other witness before firing several shots at Mauricio, she told police.

One of the witnesses immediately identified Ramirez as the shooter after looking at a photo lineup, according to the affidavit. Police say the other told them she wasn’t comfortable singling one person out of the lineup, but pointed to two suspects — including Ramirez.

Police arrested Ramirez at his house later Thursday morning.

He told police he heard one of the witnesses mention a firearm, according to the affidavit, so he grabbed a gun off the couch and took off running. While fleeing, he fired several shots into the trailer because he was in fear for his life, he told police. According to Ramirez, one of the women had the gun, but he did not know who.

Police could not find a second firearm to corroborate his story, according to records.

Police ask anyone with information about the case who has not spoken with an officer to contact Detective Collin Losasso at 970-351-5446 or collin.losasso@greeleypd.com.

Ramirez was taken to the Weld County Jail. He is being held on a $5 million bond ahead of an advisement hearing Friday in Weld District Court.
