
A winter storm is expected to snarl travel across Colorado today and Saturday, closing roadways and threatening to make driving difficult or impossible on segments of Interstate 25 and Interstate 70.
Colorado’s Department of Transportation warned that Friday and Saturday, expressing particular concern about I-70 east of Denver and I-25 south of Pueblo.
Update 9 p.m.:
Commercial motor vehicles and vehicles with any type of trailer are banned from traveling on sections of I-70, I-25, U.S. 285, U.S. 40 and U.S. 6 until 8 a.m. Saturday., according to CDOT.
Commercial vehicles and vehicles with trailers cannot travel on:
- I-70 from Golden to Silverthorne
- I-25 from C-470 to North Academy Boulevard
- U.S. 285 from Morrison to Fairplay
- U.S. 40 from Winter Park to Empire over Berthoud Pass
- U.S. 6 from Keystone to Georgetown over Loveland Pass
- U.S. 6 from Golden to I-70 through Clear Creek Canyon
“This restriction is designed to reduce the chances of semi truck and other impactful spinouts that require extensive manpower and specialized equipment to clear, and often cause prolonged closures of the interstate,” transportation officials said in a news release.
Commercial motor vehicles stuck in metro Denver can park overnight at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. Sixth Avenue in Golden.
