A 7-year-old Lakewood boy was found safe after he was reportedly abducted by a 26-year-old woman suspected of shooting his father earlier Monday.

The boy was found safe as of 3:45 p.m., the said in an update.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation officials issued an Amber Alert on Monday after the boy was seen at around 12:50 p.m. near Cheraw, 10 miles north of La Junta in Otero County.

Law enforcement officials said Crystal Denmon abducted him after she shot his father just after 6 a.m. Monday in an apartment in the 1700 block of Kendall Street, according to police spokesperson Rob Albrets.

Denmon is not the boy’s mother and investigators believe she had some kind of relationship with the boy’s father, Albrets said. The man was found in the apartment with at least one gunshot wound and taken to the hospital.

Colorado State Patrol troopers found Denmon driving with the boy near Last Chance in Washington County and were able to recover the boy and arrest her. The charges against Denmon are still pending, Albrets said.
