Douglas County Search and Rescue crews reunited a 10-year-old ATV rider with his family Sunday after the boy got lost on a mountain range, rescue officials said.

The boy was riding an ATV in Rampart Range, a mountain range that spans Douglas, El Paso and Teller counties in Pike National Forest, when he realized he was lost Sunday afternoon, .

Officials said the boy stopped, stayed calm and called 911, which let dispatchers obtain his GPS coordinates and activate the search and rescue team.

Rescue crews searched for the boy on foot and using ATVs. In the meantime, they also used a drone to drop a care package of food, water, winter clothing and a thermal blanket to help the 10-year-old stay comfortable until rescuers arrived, according to the Facebook post.

The team was able to rescue the boy before sunset on Sunday and bring him back to his parents, which search and rescue officials called a “priceless reunion.”

“There’s no way to describe the joy in seeing a family reunite,” . “It’s simply wonderful.”
