The National Western Stock Show’s kick-off parade will start one hour later than planned Thursday due to expected snow, event organizers said.

The parade will now start at 1 p.m. Thursday at Denver’s Union Station, instead of noon, event organizers said in a .

snow was just beginning to develop in Denver around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Only an inch or two of snow is expected to accumulate in the city.

Snow will be strongest in Denver between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to NWS forecasters, but event organizers are hopeful the worst of the storm will move out before the new parade start time.

Event organizers said the decision was made after consulting NWS meteorologists, Denver officials and transportation advisors to make sure animals, riders, parade participants and spectators remain safe.

“Adjusting the start time will allow for improved conditions during the event,” organizers said in the release.

Despite the delay, the route remains the same and spectators can expect to see a procession of horse-drawn wagons, western riding groups and the iconic Longhorn cattle drive.

After leaving Union Station, the parade will head down 17th Street and end at Glenarm Place. The parade will then return down 18th Street and end at the Stock Show Fair at McGregor Square.
