Updated forecasts show up to 1 inch of snow per hour falling along the Palmer Divide, including Castle Rock, Larkspur, Elizabeth and Kiowa, starting at 6 a.m., according to the agency.
The Interstate 70 corridor through the Eastern Plains could also see up to 1 inch of snow per hour Thursday morning, while up to half an inch per hour is forecast for the southern Foothills.
Lighter snow is forecast for the rest of the Denver metro and northeast plains on Thursday morning, NWS forecasters said. Freezing rain is also possible in the plains, including Fort Morgan, Akron and Sterling.
Snowfall is expected to taper off around noon, forecasters said.

The winter storm, which is expected to hit southeastern Colorado the hardest on Thursday, could drop more than a foot of snow in the mountains and up to 6 inches south of metro Denver, forecasters said.

Heavy snow started in southern Colorado’s mountains early Wednesday morning and will continue through at least 5 p.m. Thursday, forecasters said. Patchy, blowing snow could continue off and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The highest chances for accumulating snow and slick travel conditions are over the Palmer Divide, southern and eastern parts of metro Denver and the adjacent plains eastward through Limon and Akron, forecasters said in the outlook.
There’s still a chance the snow could move as far north as Boulder and Greeley and the far eastern plains may see a slushy mix of rain and snow, forecasters said.
