Colorado weather: Downpour of rain, snow to drench state starting Monday

More than an inch of rain forecast for Denver, according to National Weather Service

Rain showers and thunderstorms will start Monday morning in southern Colorado and move north throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Spring storms will start near Pueblo before 9 a.m. Monday and reach Denver after 2 p.m., .

Forecasters said up to half an inch of rain is possible in southern Colorado on Monday alone, which is . Another 1 to 3 inches will be possible on Tuesday, worth 13 to 39 inches of snow.

Denver is expected to see 1.34 inches of rain between noon Monday and 5 p.m. Wednesday, . In the winter, that would stack up as more than 17 inches of snow.

For parts of Colorado’s mountains, it’s still winter. the high elevation areas can expect up to 2 feet of snow between Monday and Wednesday.

Travel along Interstate 70 east of the Eisenhower Tunnel, the Peak to Peak Highway, U.S. 40, Berthoud Pass and Colorado 14 over and east of Cameron Pass could be difficult, forecasters said in the warning. The hazardous weather conditions will impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

The heaviest rain and snow will fall across Colorado on Tuesday, forecasters said.
