Last year, the U.K.-based chain The Body Shop filed for bankruptcy and shut down all of its stores in the U.S. It also liquidated 33 of its 105 and shut down its online sales in Canada as well.

The Body Shop history
The company started in 1976 and was founded by environmentalist and human rights activist Anita Roddick. The Body Shop became well-known for its stance against animal cruelty and its natural, ethical and sustainable approach to its products. It was a pioneer in not using animal testing for its bath and cosmetic products and became certified “B corp,” a designation awarded to companies that adhere to certain ethical and environmental standards.
Before shutting down its U.S. stores, The Body Shop boasted 2,500 locations in over 80 countries, but fell victim to the same unpredictable trends that have closed other retail chains over the years.
