More than 600 flights were delayed at Denver International Airport on Thursday amid afternoon thunderstorms and a ground delay issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
As of 6:20 p.m. Thursday, 668 flights headed in and out of DIA had been delayed and 14 had been canceled, according to flight tracking data from .
Flights were experiencing an average delay of 59 minutes because of thunderstorms, FAA officials said.
Delays are expected to end after 9 p.m., according to the federal agency.
Southwest delayed 230 flights on Thursday, followed by 170 from United and 156 from SkyWest, according to FlightAware.
Between one and 19 flights failed to leave the gate on time for Frontier, Delta, Key Lime Air, American Airlines, JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, Air Canada, Air France, AeroMéxico, Southern Airways Express, Sun County Airlines and VivaAerobus.
Frontier Airlines and Southwest canceled the most flights, five each, followed by three from SkyWest and one each from United and American Airlines.
