Colorado Springs police shoot, kill man early Saturday

This is the second fatal shooting by Colorado Springs police in two weeks

Colorado Springs police shot and killed a man early Saturday while responding to disturbance calls about a man displaying a firearm around closing time for several nightclubs, .

Officers received the call just after 1:30 a.m. for a disturbance in the 100 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs. Officers monitoring downtown cameras spotted a man matching the description and saw that he had what appeared to be a firearm, according to police.

When the officers approached, the man ran and reached into his waistband. One officer fired at the man and hit him. Officers rendered medical aid, but the man died at the scene, according to police.

Officers later found a gun at the scene of the shooting.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the shooting. Colorado Springs police will release more information, including body camera video, within 21 days, according to the department. The sheriff’s office also is investigating a June 23 shooting by Colorado Springs police.
