Driver killed in single-vehicle crash, closing I-70 westbound near Copper Mountain

A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 on Monday, temporarily closing the westbound lanes of the highway near the exits for Copper Mountain and Frisco.

In a press release Monday night, the Colorado State Patrol said the crash happened just before 4:45 p.m. near milepost 198, west of Frisco. A black Lexus SUV traveling east in heavy rain moved into the westbound lanes, rolled over and ejected its driver, according the patrol.

The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was the only occupant in the vehicle, said Sgt. Ivan Alvarado of the state patrol.

One lane of eastbound I-70 was reopened by 6 p.m. Monday, Alvarado said. The and would likely remain closed until around 9 p.m. Monday evening, Alvarado said.
