A detentions deputy is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with an inmate while on duty at the Weld County Jail earlier this month.
Jacob Golden, 30, was arrested on two counts of sexual conduct in a correctional facility by an employee, according to an affidavit for his arrest.
On July 15, an inmate reported the sexual relationship to a different detentions deputy, the affidavit states. The 27-year-old female victim was in the cell but was very emotional and did not want to speak, according to the affidavit.
The relationship began around July 12, with Golden and the inmate passing notes. The flirting progressed until the two had sex the next day in a supply closet, per the affidavit.
A Weld County Sheriff’s Office detective later found semen residue in the pants the inmate was wearing at the time, the affidavit states.
“People expect to be able to trust law enforcement,” The Weld County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday evening. “The actions of Golden are unacceptable and disturbing to the conscience. The Sheriff’s Office took swift action to ensure that this incident is properly investigated.”
Golden was released from the Weld County Jail on a $20,000 bond, according to Colorado court records. He has worked at the jail for four years and is on administrative leave pending the criminal investigation, according to the sheriff’s office release. An internal investigation will follow, the office said.
The Weld County District Attorney’s Office has until 3:30 p.m. Friday to officially file charges.
