Federal authorities are investigating after Douglas County deputies discovered more than $130,000 during a traffic stop on Interstate 25 earlier this week, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies pulled the driver over near Greenland, about five miles south of Larkspur, for “behaving erratically” and speeding, according to a from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials said the driver appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, and a police dog alerted deputies to the presence of possible drugs.
Deputies performed a field sobriety test on the driver and searched the vehicle, sheriff’s officials said. The results of that test were not available.
No drugs were found inside the car, but deputies discovered $136,000 in cash, sheriff’s officials said.
The police dog alerted deputies to the cash, “suggesting it had been in close contact with narcotics,” sheriff’s officials said.
The sheriff’s office turned the investigation over to federal authorities because of the amount of money found and the circumstances surrounding the stop, according to the post.
