The State Patrol on Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old motorcyclist for driving 142 mph on Interstate 25, according to a news release from the agency.
When asked why he was traveling at more than double the speed limit, Matthew Galek said “no reason,” according to body-cam video provided by the State Patrol.
“I just got the bike. I’m sorry. I got a little excited,” he said.
A State Patrol aircraft first spotted Galek driving north on Interstate 25 between Larkspur and Castle Rock and estimated his speed at more than 100 mph. Officials also saw him weaving across double solid white lines to pass other vehicles, according to the State Patrol news release. They later clocked his exact speed.
“Despite heavier traffic ahead, the rider was observed repeatedly accelerating to speeds well above 100 mph while weaving through vehicles,” according to the release.
When signaled by an officer, Galek pulled over to the side of the interstate, video shows.
The State Patrol charged Galek with speeding 142 mph in a 65 mph zone, reckless driving and failing to present insurance. He was booked into the Douglas County jail.
