Northbound I-25 near Mead reopened after police arrest wrong way driver

The northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near Mead have been reopened after police arrested a driver who hit multiple cars while driving the wrong way Monday afternoon, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations in south Loveland, according to a from the sheriff’s office. The driver of the vehicle then began driving against traffic in the northbound lanes of I-25, hitting several vehicles. Officers performed a maneuver to stop the car and took the driver into custody.

One person was injured in one of the crashes and was taken to a hospital.

The interstate, initially closed between Exit 245 and mile point 247, was reopened as of 3:20 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

Monday’s incident is at least the seventh instance of a wrong-way driver on a major Colorado interstate this year, according to Denver Post reporting. Just two weeks ago, a Colorado man was accused of driving under the influence and arrested in Fort Collins after twice speeding the wrong way on I-25.
