A truck driver was injured after his brakes failed and he crashed while coming down Vail Pass on westbound Interstate 70 on Tuesday morning, police officials said.

The single-vehicle crash near mile 182 closed the westbound highway for two hours after the driver of a concrete mixer crashed and rolled across both lanes, according to state transportation officials and the Vail Police Department.

Vail police said the driver reported not using an emergency truck ramp after he lost his brakes before the crash.

He was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening and was cited for careless driving and not having proof of insurance, Deputy Chief Matt Westenfelder said in an email.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported the crash at 11 a.m. and closed the highway at exit 190 near Copper Mountain. The highway reopened just after 1 p.m.
