Eastbound Colorado 470 was closed for hours Wednesday night in Jefferson County after a man stepped out into traffic, sheriff’s officials said.
At 6:22 p.m. Wednesday, at West Bowles Avenue, the sheriff’s office said on social media. The highway reopened more than three hours later, at about 9:45 p.m., agency spokesperson Jacki Kelley said.
A man stepped out into traffic on the highway and was hit, causing the fatal crash and hours-long investigation, Kelley said.
Kelley said the unidentified man was dead when deputies arrived at the scene of the crash. He will be identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were reported.
Drivers near U.S. 285 and Ken Caryl Avenue in Dakota Ridge reported standstill traffic on the eastbound highway Wednesday, with heavy traffic near the crash also backing up westbound lanes, according to the navigation app Waze.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
