An Aurora Police Department sergeant charged with child sex exploitation who worked as a school resource officer may have additional victims from his 20 years “in a position of trust,” the FBI said Wednesday.
Sgt. Aaron Jacob “Jake” Bunch was arrested this month and is charged with three felony counts of child sexual exploitation related to selling, publishing and possessing child sexual abuse material.
Bunch worked as a school resource officer in the Cherry Creek School District and Aurora Public Schools, and FBI officials believe Bunch “may have sought out minor victims while serving in a position of trust from 2005 to October 2025,” the agency said in a news release.
According to Aurora police, Bunch was hired in 2005 and worked as a school resource officer at Hinkley High School from 2011 to March 2018. He returned in April 2024 as a supervisor but was not assigned to a specific school.
Bunch was put on unpaid administrative leave, and the department launched an internal investigation.
