A sparring match between two bucks took a sharp turn early Sunday morning, sending the animals through a window and into the basement of a Douglas County home, according to first responders.

The deer were butting heads when they crashed into the basement gym in Roxborough Park at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.

“The startled homeowner called Colorado Parks and Wildlife, who sent two officers with a tranquilizer gun,” . “But before they could put the two intruders to sleep, they called in West Metro Company 15 for some extra muscle.”

Firefighters used a tarp-like stretcher to carry the unconscious deer out of the home, West Metro officials said.

State wildlife officials tagged the deer and, after the two woke up, released them back into the wild, according to the agency.

“We’re guessing the bucks will think twice before their next late-night showdown,” the agency wrote.
