Rather than fighting crowds at airports or sitting in holiday traffic, my partner and I spend the night before Thanksgiving treating ourselves to a night out in downtown Denver, wandering into the bars or restaurants that catch our eye.
That’s how we learned that Dairy Block speakeasy Run for the Roses, one of Denver’s best upscale cocktail bars, is open Thanksgiving Eve serving one of our favorite snack indulgences: caviar and potato chips.
Standard caviar service is $45 and includes 10 grams of Calvisius Siberian caviar, chive creme fraiche and chips, which are a surprisingly perfect pairing, cutting through the richness with a hit of salt and fat.
While definitions of “affordable” vary greatly, for under $50, this little treat is a luxurious bite that pairs well with a glass of Champagne or cocktail and the relief that comes from not fighting holiday traffic crowds.
To make things extra festive, this year on Nov. 26, Run for the Roses is also debuting its holiday pop-up bar, .
You can find the entrance to in the alley at the Dairy Block, 1801 Blake St., between Blake and Wazee streets; there is a red neon sign that says “Cocktails.” Seating is first-come, first-served.
