Itap cheaper to fill up at the pump in Colorado right now than almost anywhere else in the country, according to gas price data from AAA.

Colorado’s average price for a gallon of regular gas was $2.47 as of Tuesday, making it the second-cheapest in the U.S. behind Oklahoma, where gas is $2.37 per gallon on average.

Gas prices in parts of metro Denver are even cheaper, with an average price of $2.34 in Denver, $2.31 in Arapahoe County and $2.18 in Adams County,

There are several factors that contribute to lower fuel prices, Executive Director Angie Binder said.

Those include stable operations at refineries and being in close proximity to refineries so there are fewer shipping costs, she said.

“Fewer people are driving right now, which also means higher supply and less demand,” Binder said. “From everything I’m reading, it also seems like a bit of a price war going on between gas stations.”

Gas prices at several stations across metro Denver dropped below $2 a gallon as of Tuesday, including $1.69 at Costco, Sam’s Club, Shell and QuikTrip stations in Denver and Aurora, according to the website.
