A crash involving a South Metro Fire Rescue ambulance in west Aurora sent one person to the hospital on Sunday, Aurora police said.
The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m., near the intersection of South Havana Street and East Jewell Avenue, .
Paramedics took one civilian to the hospital with minor injuries, Aurora Police Department spokesperson Matthew Longshore said. South Metro Fire Rescue originally reported that two people were taken to the hospital.
No firefighters were injured in the crash, South Metro officials said.
A car ran a red light at the crash intersection and crashed into another vehicle, Longshore said. One of those two vehicles then struck the South Metro Fire Rescue ambulance.
“The ambulance was returning to their station and did not have any patients in the back,” Longshore said.
While waiting for medical personnel to arrive, the South Metro Fire Rescue crew evaluated and treated two of the people involved in the crash before turning over medical control to Aurora Fire Rescue, Longshore said.
The at-fault driver, who has not been publicly identified, was cited for running the red light, Longshore said.
