Hundreds of flights were delayed at Denver International Airport on Thursday as a winter storm brought snow and icy temperatures to the Front Range and federal officials ordered a ground delay because of staffing issues.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a from 5:30 to 8:29 p.m. because of staffing, the agency said in an alert. Additional details about the were not immediately available.

Flights are delayed an average of 36 minutes as ground crews deice departing flights, according to the FAA.

There were 559 as of 5 p.m., including 213 on United Airlines, 142 on Southwest and 119 on SkyWest, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.
