Colorado ski resorts are receiving modest boosts to their below-average base depths in advance of the Presidents Day weekend, with more significant storms headed this way next week.

Most resorts received one to three inches Thursday, although Steamboat welcomed eight inches. is forecasting another four to eight inches in the southern mountains on Friday, with three to six expected in the central mountains and two to eight in the northern ranges.

Presidents Day weather forecasts in the mountains call for warm and dry conditions with high temperatures in the mid to upper 30s, which should make for comfortable skiing and good travel conditions.

A dozen Colorado ski areas still are reporting base depths at less than 50% of normal. Eight more stand at under 60%.

A promising storm system is due to arrive Tuesday, though, lasting through Thursday.

“A multi-part storm will bring snow on all three days with gusty winds at least on Tuesday and maybe the other days, too,” Gratz wrote in his daily Colorado update on Friday. “Wednesday and Thursday are potentially the colder, softer, and deeper powder days. Total snowfall could be six to 12 inches for many mountains.”

Gratz sees the potential for more snow next weekend and the last four days of the month.
