Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders have promoted Dante’ Carter to be the new defensive line coach for the Buffaloes.
Carter spent the 2025 season in Boulder as a graduate assistant and will now replace Domata Peko, who left CU earlier this month to become the defensive line coach for the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.
Prior to coming to CU last year, Carter spent one season, in 2024, as the defensive line coach at Texas College, an NAIA school in Tyler, Texas.
Under his direction, the Steers led the SAC conference and finished fourth in the NAIA in sacks, with 39, in 2024. Carter helped the Steers to an 8-3 record.
A 2018 graduate of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Carter played as a freshman at Southeastern Louisiana in 2018 before transferring to Prairie View A&M. A defensive tackle, he played three seasons at PVAM, recording 29 tackles, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2022.
As a senior in high school, he earned District 9-5A defensive MVP honors and was chosen first-team Class 5A All-State. He was nicknamed “Baby Sapp,” after Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp, who is also entering his second season on CU’s staff.
