Xcel may shut off power in Boulder, Jefferson counties Saturday because of high winds

The utility did not specify how many customers might be affected by the planned outages

Xcel Energy is potentially shutting off power to customers in Boulder and Jefferson counties around 2 p.m. on Saturday due to high winds, according to

“We recognize that is a significant inconvenience and we work hard to limit the time customers spend without power,” read a statement from Xcel. “Prepare for potential outages now, especially if you use medical equipment that requires electricity.”

Strong winds are expected across Colorado throughout the weekend, Xcel said. Paired with dry conditions, wildfire risk is high as power lines are damaged by the winds, the utility said.

The utility did not specify where in Boulder and Jefferson counties the power outages may occur.
