Mandatory evacuations ordered in new southern Colorado wildfire

The Chama Canyon fire is burning on 117 acres east of San Luis in Costilla County

Costilla County officials ordered people living east of San Luis to evacuate immediately because of a , emergency officials said Friday afternoon.

The is burning on 117 acres with no containment 6 miles east of San Luis, according to the Costilla County Office of Emergency Management.

There is a mandatory evacuation order for people living on Costilla County Road L.7 and N.2 in Chama, extending north 3 miles to Malcolm Road in the Poso, county officials said. People evacuating should head toward San Luis.

This is at least the third wildfire to spark in southern Colorado this week, with most of the state under red flag conditions for dangerous fire weather because of high temperatures, low humidity and wind.
