PHOENIX — One measurement among many that marks the Broncos’ ascent back to the NFL’s upper crust in recent years is the seemingly annual attempts to pillage Sean Payton’s coaching staff.

Payton lost several assistants after the 2024 season and then two more to coordinator jobs in Buffalo earlier this year. The Bills hired Jim Leonhard as their defensive coordinator and Pete Carmichael as their offensive coordinator.

Not Davis Webb, however. Head coach Sean Payton retained him by promoting him to offensive coordinator and, critically, handing him primary play-calling duties.

Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner on Monday called keeping Webb in the building for another year “a priority.”

“When you’re successful, you’re going to become a place and an organization that other teams want to come hire your folks,” Penner said. “We put a priority on retaining a number of those and Davis Webb was one of them. We’re excited to have him in that role and have a lot of confidence in him.”

Penner said he talked with his head coach about play-calling duties after the season ended but reiterated that actually making the move was, “entirely, 100% his decision.”

“Sean always wants to do whatap in the best interest of this team and the Broncos organization,” Penner added. … “We’ve got a lot of confidence in Davis and I think Sean is going to be very supportive of him.”
