Comedian and “Blue Bloods” actor Alex Duong has died, a year after receiving a cancer diagnosis. He was 42.
The cause was a rare and aggressive cancer of the soft tissue, , according to the organizers of an online funding appeal. The announcement came a day after an infection threw him into septic shock.
“With the heaviest hearts, we share that our dear Alex passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by love and dear friends,” wrote organizers Hilarie and Gregg Steele, noting that his wife Christine and their 5-year-old daughter Everest had a chance to say farewell.
Just over a year earlier, Duong had been about to embark on a , sharing the stage for some of the dates with “The Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng, the Los Angeles Times reported in 2025. In addition, “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg had indicated a . Duong also worked the door at the Comedy Store.
He started to get headaches during the devastating Los Angeles fires and attributed them to stress, the Los Angeles Times recounted. When he returned to the Comedy Store post-fires, his eye was swollen, taut and discolored. His manager said, “your left eye looks like itap about to fall out,” and sent him home.
Duong was soon diagnosed with the deadly disease and lost sight in that eye. Fellow comics with “The Alex Duong Has Cancer In His Eye Comedy Benefit Show” last August. As of Monday morning, more than $122,000 had poured into the Steeles’ online funding drive.
