A man who killed a Colorado mountain town dog breeder two years ago was sentenced in January to more than five decades in prison, according to court records.
Sergio Ferrer, 37, took a deal and pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder and aggravated robbery in the death of Idaho Springs dog breeder Paul Peavey, Clear Creek County court records show. The deal dismissed charges of first-degree murder, tampering with a human body, burglary and theft from his case.
Clear Creek County sentenced Ferrer on Jan. 13 to 48 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections on the murder charge and seven years in prison on the robbery charge, according to court records.
Peavey, the 57-year-old owner of the company Elite European Dobermans, was found shot to death by a search party in August 2024 after being reported missing. Nearly a dozen Doberman puppies were stolen from his property, Clear Creek County sheriff’s officials said.
Ferrer’s wife, Ana, was also charged in the case as an accessory, court records show. The woman took a deal and pleaded guilty in September to being an accessory to a felony and to misdemeanor theft, which dismissed a tampering with evidence charge and a second accessory count.
Ana Ferrer, 37, was granted a four-year deferred sentence, which means her guilty plea will be removed from her record if she fulfills the terms of her probation.
