Three climbers were rescued on Sunday after they lost their route in Eldorado Canyon State Park when night fell.

About 8:15 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a report of climbers who needed help on the Naked Edge climbing route in the park, according to a . The three climbers ran into challenges during their climb and got delayed. When the sun set, they did not have headlamps and lost their route.

Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Boulder Emergency Squad rescuers responded and contacted the climbers at about 10:19 p.m., according to the post. Rescuers reached the first climber at about 10:30 p.m. and provided warming supplies. One rescuer rappelled about 105 feet to the two lower climbers and then helped the two climbers finish the final pitch of the route. All three climbers returned to the trailhead at about 2:25 a.m.

The sheriff’s office asked climbers attempting long or technical routes to carefully manage their time and carry headlamps with extra batteries, even for routes they expect to complete in the daytime. Climbers should also bring enough food and water and layers of warm clothing in case of delay, the post states.
