Boulder Jewish Festival to honor victims of Pearl Street Mall attack

June 7 event will commemorate victims of antisemitic attack before celebrating Jewish culture

The Boulder Jewish Festival returns next weekend, just over a year after an on the Pearl Street Mall.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7 on Pearl Street. It will begin with a commemoration of the tragedy and , the 82-year-old woman who died from injuries sustained in the attack, and the attack’s survivors. Then, it will transition into what organizers call a “vibrant celebration of Jewish culture, resilience, and joy,” according to a Friday news release.

Monday is the one-year anniversary of the antisemitic attack on the Boulder chapter of Run for Their Lives, a group that peacefully walked along the Pearl Street Mall to advocate for the release of Israeli hostages held by the militant group Hamas.

The June 7 commemoration runs from 11 to 11:30 a.m. From there, the community has the chance to embrace “the music, food, art and traditions that make Jewish life so vibrant.”

The festival will feature food vendors, live music and performances, an art and artisan market, and interactive activities for all ages, according to the news release.

As a precaution, there will also be “enhanced security protocols,” according to the news release.

On May 7, 46-year-old Egyptian immigrant Mohamed Sabry Soliman plus 2,178 years in prison in the June 1 attack.
