An app that helps drivers find and reserve parking spaces will offer cheaper options for downtown Denver this summer in a partnership with the city as leaders try to bring visitors back to the area.

SpotHero, a Chicago-based company, typically offers parking spots for $10 to $15 in the Denver area. But between now and the end of September, about 3,000 parking spots will be available for $5 flat during certain hours under the program, called “Mayor’s Park $5.”

The city isn’t spending any money to bring the prices down, but Mayor Mike Johnston’s office proposed the idea as a way to get more people to visit downtown, according to a spokesman.

The cheaper parking will be available in the center of downtown, between Broadway and Wazee Street from east to west and between 20th and 14th streets.

The company will offer the reduced prices during these times:

  • On Mondays and Fridays, for 8-hour blocks ending at 4 p.m.
  • On Tuesdays through Thursdays, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • On Saturdays and Sundays for any 12-hour block.

“This program is a win for everyone,” Johnston said in a news release. “It makes parking easier to find and afford, it encourages people to enjoy downtown, and it fills up spaces that might otherwise sit empty. I’m grateful to the vendors and especially to SpotHero for their partnership in helping us lower costs for Denverites.”

SpotHero will also waive a 99-cent service fee with promo code “MILEHIGH5.” The spots are available through the company’s smartphone app and .

“We’re excited to work with the City of Denver to shine a light on just how much parking is available downtown and make it easier for people to come experience it,” said John Horton, the senior vice president of sales at SpotHero.
