“Project Hail Mary” at Sci-Fi Film Series
Wednesday. The brain-tickling Sci-Fi Film Series, presented by Denver Film and Denver Museum of Nature & Science, has been going strong since July 1, but we’re particularly excited about the July 29 installment for box-office smash “Project Hail Mary,” starring Ryan Gosling. Like the rest of the series, the screening at DMNS’s Infinity Theater is hosted by an expert — in this case, former Denver Post film critic Lisa Kennedy — and includes another expert guest who helps unpack the movie’s science in mercifully plain language (that’s Ph.D. Kimberly Ennico-Smith, research astrophysicist and planetary scientist at DMNS).
Online passes are sold out, but a stand-by line forms one hour before the screening. (One standby number per person, and you must be present to receive a number.) Cheyenne Frontier Days wraps up
Through Sunday. The last weekend of Cheyenne Frontier Days is here as the southern-Wyoming western-culture festival winds down its run. The event is still packed with world-class rodeo competitions; 8 p.m. performances from country headliners Hardy and Cameron Whitcomb (Friday, July 24) and Zach Top and Joe Dee Messina (Saturday, July 25); a classic carnival midway with rides and kid’s activities (10:30 a.m.-midnight); food and drink; an Old West Museum; Indian village (the entire festival is this year is themed “The Year of the American Indian”); and much more.
Tickets vary in price by event, with $5 gate admission and $45 all-you-can-ride wristbands for the midway, and concerts starting at $72. It’s located at 1230 W. 8th Ave. in Cheyenne, Wyo. See for more information.
Live at RockyGrass LIV
Friday-Sunday. While a pair of local-music fests duke it out in Denver this weekend (Blucifer’s First Rodeo and The Underground Music Showcase), Lyons is back with its high-country favorite RockyGrass Festival, this year celebrating its 54th anniversary (that’s LIV in Roman numerals). The bluegrass-focused pickin’ event has a cozy feel and invigorating artists, this year featuring I’m With Her, Punch Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens, Sam Bush Bluegrass Band, The Del McCoury Band, and Tim O’Brien, among many others.
It’s located at Planet Bluegrass Ranch, 500 W. Main St. in Lyons. Full-fest and day passes are sold out from Planet Bluegrass, but there are still reasonably priced 3-day tickets on the secure secondary site Tixel for around $325, only about $50 more than the original sale price. Benson Boone at Ball Arena
Thursday. Former “American Idol” breakout and current pop-vocal sensation Benson Boone has been charming audiences on tour for years, including 2025’s sold-out American Heart World Tour, which played Denver on Sept. 22. Now he’s back at Ball Arena with the Most Wanted Man Tour, and it could hardly be better-named as the acrobatic crooner behind “Mystical Magical” and “Sorry I’m Herer for Someone Else” seems to only be picking up steam.
