Afternoon thunderstorms derailed hundreds of flights at Denver International Airport on Tuesday, with more than 400 flights delayed and dozens canceled amid a federal ground delay.

Hefty delays are expected through 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to FAA officials.
Tuesday delays included 243 Southwest flights, 122 United flights, 27 SkyWest flights, 12 Frontier flights and 10 American Airlines flights, according to FlightAware. Seven other airlines delayed between one and seven flights.
Southwest also canceled 11 flights, followed by six from United, six from Delta and three from JetBlue, according to FlightAware.
