A bear entered a home in Mount Crested Butte and unintentionally started a fire, first responders said early Wednesday.
The wandering bear started the fire in the home's kitchen, according to a post from the at 3:02 a.m. Wednesday. Mount Crested Butte is a town at the base of the ski resort, about 4 miles north of the historic mining town of Crested Butte.
Firefighters contained the flames to the kitchen, and no injuries were reported, according to the agency.
Residents should lock doors and windows while away or asleep, secure food and trash, clean up outdoor grills and avoid approaching bears or attempting to remove the animal from the home on their own, Crested Butte Fire Protection District officials said.
