Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — Colorado State quarterback Hauss Hejny left Saturday’s game against BYU at Canvas Stadium late in the first quarter with a hamstring injury.

Henjy came off the field after an incomplete pass hobbling and went into the medical tent. He came out and re-entered the game on CSU’s next possession, but after a couple of plays was replaced by K’saan Farrar.

CSU head coach Jim Mora said after the game that Hejny tweaked a hamstring and needed treatment. He said he didn’t hold his quarterback out as a precaution. Hejny couldn’t play to his capabilities and the Rams coaching staff kept him out of the rest of the game.

“It wasn’t precautionary,” Mora said. “We don’t do that. If a guy is cleared to play, we play him. Somebody asked me on the radio if we were saving our players. No, we don’t save our players. We try to win every down. If he was ready to play, he would have played. Hauss is a guy that he needs to be able to move around, and he didn’t have that mobility.”

Before exiting the game, Hejny completed 6 of 10 passes for 80 yards and a 7-yard touchdown pass to RJ Vick. That touchdown tied the game at 7-7, but CSU trailed the Cougars 31-7 at halftime.

On the sideline, Hejny stayed positive for his teammates.

“He was just saying, ‘Keep your head up. We got this,’” Vick said. “He was just being a positive guy.”

Late in the third quarter, Farrar was poked in the eye and had to leave the field. Darius Curry entered the game and led the Rams on two touchdown drives. One culminated with a 1-yard run by Durell Robinson and cut the BYU lead to 38-15 early in the fourth quarter following a successful two-point conversion.

The other came on a 1-yard run by Nader Chirchi that cut the Rams’ deficit to 41-23 with 1:58 left in the game.

Farrar completed 13 of 23 passes for 70 yards with an interception, while Curry was 6 of 8 for 70 yards with a touchdown.

Hejny, who garnered national attention for his performance in CSU’s wins over Wyoming and Southern Utah in which he passed for nine touchdowns and rushed for another, now has 619 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception in two-plus games.
