Broncos running back RJ Harvey did not play in the team’s home opener against Jacksonville due to a hamstring injury.

Harvey did not practice Wednesday, but was upgraded to a limited participant later in the week. He practiced without pads Thursday. The Broncos listed the dynamic running back as questionable before Sunday’s game but he was inactive.

Harvey had three carries for 18 yards and four catches for 23 yards in Denver’s Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The most productive game of Harvey’s career came against the Jaguars last year, when he posted 121 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. This offseason, Harvey underwent shoulder surgery after tearing his labrum. He injured his shoulder in the AFC Championship Game. Harvey also missed the entirety of the 2021 season at the University of Central Florida after tearing his ACL.

In his place, rookie Jonah Coleman saw a much bigger workload and helped salt away Denver’s win against Jacksonville. Tyler Badie was active for the game and contributed a pair of big plays, too, in a 38-yard kick return and a 27-yard catch and run.

The rest of Denver’s inactives for Sunday: QB Sam Ehlinger (emergency QB3), TE Dallen Bentley, OL Kage Casey, DL Jordan Jackson and DL Tyler Onyedim.

Marvin Mims avoids IR

Broncos fourth-year wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. avoided a placement on injured reserve Saturday, meaning there’s hope his absence is a short one.

Mims was ruled out for Sunday’s game with a foot injury after missing the entire week of practice.

Mims and Harvey were both on Denver’s sideline Sunday in street clothes.

The wideout told The Denver Post he suffered an aggravation of an injury he dealt with in training camp after Monday’s loss to Kansas City. The Broncos called it a hip injury Monday night when he left the game. He later returned to action but played just nine snaps on offense and a handful of return snaps.

“It was just some old stuff coming back up and trying to toughen through it,” Mims said after the game.

Mims avoided IR, though, meaning Denver’s anticipating the wide receiver will return to action soon. Lil’Jordan Humphrey is active Sunday as Denver’s fifth receiver with Mims out.
