A former Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested early Monday morning after deputies saw him use an AR-15 to shoot at the county jail’s entrance, and suspect him of shooting at the Broomfield Police Department earlier that night.
Tyler Boyd Reilly, 40, was arrested after 1:08 a.m., when he was seen armed with an AR-15-style rifle and firing multiple shots at the Boulder County Jail’s entry area, according to a . Reilly had called to threaten Sheriff’s Office facilities, including the jail and the Sheriff’s headquarters, earlier that night, the release says.
No one was injured in either shooting, the release says.
Around 12:08 a.m. Monday, a man, later determined to be Reilly, called the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center for the second time in 10 minutes and threatened the Sheriff’s Office facilities, according to the release. Deputies then worked to find Reilly, later using “law enforcement databases” to find him driving north on U.S. 287 from Dillon Road in Boulder County, the release says.
It was not immediately clear what law enforcement databases were used to find Reilly.
At 1:08 a.m., Reilly was spotted at the front of the county jail, where deputies were staged and prepared for Reilly’s arrival, the release says. That’s when Reilly shot at the entryway multiple times before being arrested.
Deputies also staged at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters and Communications Center in case Reilly went there, the release says.
Deputies later discovered that Reilly was suspected of stopping and shooting at the Broomfield Police Department on his way to the Boulder County Jail, the release says.

The Sheriff’s Office is expected to release more information, including what charges Reilly will face, as it becomes available.
Reilly resigned as a Boulder County deputy on May 25, 2024, instead of being fired for cause, the release says. He worked in the jail and patrol divisions during his tenure.
