Construction crews continued repairs on a closed section of Interstate 70 in Wheat Ridge on Monday, which is expected to reopen Tuesday morning, state transportation officials said.
This I-70 closure is the second of two multiday closures planned by the Colorado Department of Transportation for repairs to the highway bridge over Kipling Street. It started Friday evening and is scheduled to last through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The stretches from Ward Road and Wadsworth Boulevard, and includes the highway on- and off-ramps in that area, which are being used to reroute I-70 traffic around the construction, . Kipling Street also remains closed in both directions under the bridge.
As of Monday morning, repairs were on track to finish by the Tuesday morning deadline, said Maddie Garbalagtys, CDOT’s communications manager for the Denver metro.
“Crews will continue to monitor progress today and evaluate the exact opening time once the concrete pour is completed,” Garbalagtys said.
The previous closure of westbound I-70 lifted early last week as crews completed that section of bridge work ahead of schedule, . Repairs include fixing the bridge deck, concrete work, paving and striping.
Traffic delays of 30 minutes or longer are expected in the area, state transportation officials said in the release.
West 44th Avenue to Wadsworth Boulevard will serve as a detour to access the highway during the eastbound closure. Bicyclists and pedestrians will be rerouted through the area using Garrison Street.
