Dave Rein Democrat

Residence: Lakewood
Profession: Attorney
Education: University of Iowa, College of Law
Experience: I have the privilege of serving as a city councilor where we returned civility to the city and showed that we can get things done. I am involved with nonprofits working to make our community better
What are your top three priorities, if elected?
(1) Expanding home ownership and stable housing; (2) increasing job creation at companies who treat workers with dignity and who will be community partners; (3) securing stable education funding at K-12 and expanding pathways for apprenticeships and other post-high school education and training.
What specific actions would you support to improve affordability for Coloradans, whether aimed at housing costs, tax burdens or other impacts?
Increase the number of training programs and apprenticeships so more people can earn a fair wage; guard against “AI dynamic pricing” on our groceries; refuse to provide tax breaks for companies that pay wages so low that their employees qualify for SNAP food benefits; increase the supply of housing; and ensure that when the federal government steps back on enforcing everything from worker safety to protecting our public lands, air, and water, Colorado does not.
Whether your party is in the majority or minority next year, where do you see actionable common ground with the opposing party?
I think everyone agrees that somewhere along the line, the promises of the American Dream were broken and it shouldn’t be this hard to achieve your version of the American Dream. We should have common ground that everyone should be allowed to own or rent in a friendly community with good schools; to find work that treats you with dignity, to enjoy and preserve our open spaces; and to have access to meaningful healthcare.
A new governor will take office next year. What opportunities are there for legislation or other changes that did not gain traction under Gov. Jared Polis?
I am excited to work with Phil Weiser and Lesley Dahlkemper as they are proven leaders showing up for and fighting for everyone in Colorado. I am hopeful that a fresh perspective from thoughtful leaders will provide a vision on how we move Colorado forward rather than just reacting to events.
